Hand & Upper Extremity
Quality Care From the Shoulder Down
At North Jersey Orthopedic Institute (NJOI), our specialized physician effectively diagnoses and treats conditions of the hand and upper extremity (shoulder, arm, elbow and wrist) as well as the associated nerves, ligaments, tendons, muscles and bones.
Using extensive diagnostic testing and minimally invasive techniques, we provide comprehensive relief from pain and other symptoms for adult, adolescent and pediatric patients of all activity levels.
Conditions We Treat
Conditions of the hand and elbow that we treat include:
- Congenital deformity
- Degenerative or systemic arthritic conditions
- Nerve compression syndromes, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
- Traumatic injuries, including fractures
- Tumors and congenital deformities
Careful physical examination is essential, but X-rays, electrical studies (EMG) and advanced imaging techniques––such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)––may be required to complete the diagnosis. In addition, while many conditions can be treated with conservative care consisting of splinting and therapy, surgical procedures can be utilized when necessary to relieve pain, restore function and strength or improve motion of the hand. Microsurgery, a minimally invasive surgical procedure involving a microscope, may be an integral part of the treatment plan.
